STUDENT PRINTING AT MONTANA TECH (PLEASE READ)
Montana Tech is one of the only Montana campuses that does not charge students for printing in computer labs. In order to continue to offer this benefit to students, the campus invested in the Pharos printing system. The purpose of the Pharos system is to manage and optimize printing resources, which includes tracking the number of pages being printed each semester by each student. Montana Tech wants to ensure that each student is able to equitably have access to printing resources and that no individual student is printing more than their fair share of copies. In the Pharos system, each student is given a $500 Pharos credit that is loaded onto their Digger Card for campus printing. This Pharos credit has no real cash value and cannot be used for anything other than printing. This $500 Pharos credit is not an additional charge to the student. Student fees did not increase at all in order to implement this system. This credit represents an allocation of printing resources to each student, designed to maximize the student fees that have already been paid, and to eliminate the abuse of excessive printing in campus labs. However, if a student exceeds the number of pages allowed, they must add Digger Dollars for additional printing during the semester. If you have questions or need further clarification, please feel free to contact Jackie Amaya at 496-4514 or jamaya@mtech.edu.
