Building a Syllabus Using Blackboard's Syllabus Builder

From the course Control Panel select a Content Area (i.e. Course Information or Course Documents).

On the right hand side locate the drop down box for creating items.
Select 'Syllabus', then click the 'Go' button.

Adding the Syllabus:

The next window that you come to will be the 'Add Syllabus'. Here you will enter the Syllabus name and select whether you would like to create your own or attach a file such as a word document.

Creating the Syllabus:

Creating a new syllabus provides much of the information found on a normal course syllabus. In this next window (by default) you can enter a Course Description, Course Learning Objectives, and Required Course Material. If you wish to rename one of these areas to suit your individual course, simply rename the Description, Learning Objectives, or Required Materials box.

After entering in your text information, you have the option of customizing the look of the syllabus.

Style: This option determines the layout and aesthetics of the syllabus.

Colors: Options for what areas of the Syllabus can have colors changed are determined by what style is chosen. Options include Headers and Borders, Text, Background, and Frames.

Lessons: If the course syllabus is going to outline assignments through the semester, this is where they will be created. Lesson Shells do not have to be determined at this step, as they can be added later.

Creating Lessons:

Whether a number of shells was determined at the last step or if lessons are created later, this is what the window to specify information for each lesson looks like. In this window the Lesson Title, Date, and Description are entered.

Instructor View:

This is what a completed Syllabus looks like to the instructor. Notice the add 'Lesson' button towards to bottom. Clicking this button will bring back to the previous step to define a new lesson.

Student View:
