Minor - Curriculum
Earning a PTC Minor is an excellent way to add value to any Montana Tech undergraduate degree. People who work in nearly every professional field are required to have good communication skills. Those people who have the best communication skills are the ones most likely to succeed.
The Montana Tech PTC Minor requires 24 credits of coursework in the areas of writing (6 credits), production (6 credits), cultural context (6 credits), presenting technical information (3 credits) and ethics (3 credits). Students with a PTC Minor must also submit a portfolio to the department head one semester prior to graduation.
All PTC minors must take the 3 credit Presenting Technical Information course.
Courses fulfilling the writing requirement include: Reporting; Scientific & Technical Writing; Business & Professional Writing; Technical Report Writing; Technical Editing; and Advanced Writing.
Courses fulfilling the production requirement include: Publication Design; Web Page Design; Digital Imaging; New Media 1; and Intro to Desktop Publishing.
Courses fulfilling the cultural context requirement include: Technology & Society; Politics of Technical Decisions; Technology, Communication & Culture; Social Psychology; and Industrial Psychology.
Courses fulfilling the ethics requirement include: Professional Ethics; Business Ethics; and Bioethics.
