The PTC Graduate Program
Montana Tech's Master's of Science in Technical Communication is a practical oriented program that provides students with advanced instruction in three important aspects of technical communication, writing & editing, production, and cultural context. Students learn how to make the tough rhetorical choices that are required of those working in professional communication settings. No longer are technical communicators exclusively concerned with writing text. Because of current advances in technology, technical communicators must now also have the ability to produce their messages in newmedia and needs to have the ability to integrate written text, sound, video, and still pictures in a variety of different formats from traditional books to the latest on the World Wide Web and multimedia. Finally, social science and the humanities provide the big-picture view for contemplating technical communication as an ontogenetic process with its own cultural politics. Professional ethics, intercultural communication, and psychology are just a few ways to understand this context. Understanding this context better empowers MSTC graduates to play an active role in shaping their world.
