Complaint Procedure
A student who is having one or more problems with a faculty member of the Computer Science Department can discuss this problem with the Computer Science Department Head. If the student wants action to be taken, the department head will recommend that the student discuss his or her complaint and the action he or she wants taken with the faculty member. If the student is uncomfortable discussing the problem directly with the faculty member, the student can prepare an anonymous written statement that describes the complaint and outlines those actions that the student would like to occur. This letter will be shown to the faculty member by the department head and may be brought to the Computer Science faculty for discussion. The student will be informed of the result of the discussion between the faculty member and the department head, or the entire Computer Science faculty.
If the student does not feel that the above resolves the problem, that student can request a meeting among the faculty member, the department head, and the student. If necessary, the department head will ask the student and faculty member each to put what actions he or she wants to happen into writing. Actions should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time bound. An attempt will be made to reach consensus on those actions that the faculty member, student, and department head will carry out in order to resolve the issue. Each player will sign the agreement. The department head will monitor the progress on the agreed upon actions.
If the student does not feel that the above resolves the problem, he or she should take his or her problem to the Dean of the College of Mathematics and Sciences.
