Directions for Accessing Microsoft Power Point Lectures

These lectures were developed and tested with Netscape 2.0, Microsoft Power Point 7.0, and Microsoft Office 95, running under Windows 95. They should work well with other browsers and versions of Power Point, although there may be some glitches.

To access the lectures that have been created in Power Point, you need to have this program loaded on your machine. Most of the computer labs available at Montana Tech have Power Point already loaded.

When you click on an outline topic that is an active link, you will be presented with a dialog box warning that There is a possible security hazard here in opening a network file. Since you do want to open such a file, select Open it and click OK and the Power Point presentation of the lecture will now load.

The Power Point lectures were created using the TrueType fonts, Times New Roman and Symbol, which are generally part of the suite of fonts provided by Microsoft.  If you do not have the fonts available, you can download them by clicking on the appropriate font listed below:

Times New Roman

Symbol

You should save this file to disk on your hard drive in the location where other fonts your computer uses are stored. This will vary from computer to computer, but is likely within some Windows directory (search for a folder labeled fonts).

You can either view the lecture notes on screen as a Power Point presentation or you can obtain a printed copy of the lecture notes (I recommend the latter).

When you are finished, closing Power Point will return you to the browser from which you launched the application.
