Chemistry & Geochemistry Department
Enter the expansive world of chemistry careers by pursuing a Montana
Tech Chemistry degree. Participate in faculty directed research
as an undergraduate student in a highly personalized environment
(undergraduate research assistantships are available in the department).
Specialize in Biochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Geology/Geochemistry
or tailor your electives and program to match your career objectives
Faculty members are actively involved in many areas of both fundamental
and applied research including remediation of mine waste and other
environmental problems; diel cycling of metal ions in natural
aqueous systems, interaction of metal ions with naturally occurring
organic matter in aqueous systems; isolation and structural elucidation
of biologically active compounds from microorganisms; chemical
application of graph theory; computer modeling of clay surfaces
and biochemically interesting molecules; organometallic synthesis;
and chemical education to name a few.
Special features of this degree include:
The Chemistry Degree (Professional Option and Environmental Option)
are certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS). A large
fraction of students participates in undergraduate research.
Each year, the Montana Tech Chemistry Club shares many fun elements
of chemistry with youth throughout the region.
Graduates:
Graduates find career positions in laboratories or research positions
and are prepared for many other career opportunities in the expansive
field of chemistry. Many graduates choose to pursue advanced degrees.
Montana Tech graduates have been very successful gaining admittance
to professional health schools in medicine, pharmacy,
dentistry and other health science programs.
