Raised in Easton, PA, Dr. Mitman is a phycologist specializing in Microbial Ecology. His research interests include algae in pit lake systems and mine waste areas, algal genetics, microbial ecology, botany and microbiology. He is currently conducting research involving the use of algae, bacteria and other organisms as agents for bioremediation, and he investigates biological surveys of acid mine waste environments.
