Suggested Text:  Atkins, Quantum Mechanics;

Vincent, "Molecular Symmetry and Group Theory".

Prerequisite/Corequisite:  MATH 223

Course Summary:  Most of the material in this course will cover applications of Group Theory and introductory Quantum Mechanics.  However, since each of the topics is worthy of a semester (or two) in itself, we will not expect to cover all topics completely.  Further, additional topics such as an introduction to molecular modeling will be explored in order to better-visualize bonding and structure in molecules.

Progression of the course:

I.                   Molecular Symmetry and Group Theory

II.                Quantum Mechanics

III.       Molecular Modeling

Grading:  Grades will be based on required attendance, the results of weekly homework assignments, and two take-home exams and an in-class presentation (Graduate Student only).
