CHEM 3306 / 5306
Fall 2004
This course is designed to give you hands on experience in accessing scientific and
technical literature in your field of study. The two-credit course consists of a weekly
one-hour lecture and a weekly laboratory assignment in the library. The lecture is
intended to provide an overview of the purpose and structure of the library assignment for
that week. The heart of the course is the library assignment. The assignments are
generally different for each student, are intended to require ~ 3 hours to complete, and
can be done at the student's convenience. The assignments are designed to illustrate the
main features of a given resource.
Grades will be based on library assignments, completion of a bibliography, and on an
in-library final:
| 10 library assignments (due in the lecture following the week in which the assignment was made) | 100 points |
| Bibliography (a written description of the bibliographic topic must be approved by October 26, while the bibliography is due December 7 at 5:00 PM). An annotated bibliography is required for students taking this course for graduate credit | 100 points |
| In-library final exam | 50 points |
| TOTAL | 250 points |
