Reaction Data

An extensive source of information on syntheses and synthetic techniques has been compiled by Gary Wiggins of Indiana University.

The text The Logic of Chemical Synthesis by E. J. Corey and Xue-Min Cheng presents the structures and names of approximately 600 natural products that have been synthesized along with references to the original successful synthetic work in the primary literature. These natural products are roughly arranged according to topology, ring types, and increasing complexity.

An intriguing web site, sponsored by Eli Lilly and Company, is www.innocentive.com. This site presents synthetic problems that are of interest to industry. For example the following bounty appeared on this site on September 28, 2001:

(5-AZA-BENZOFURAN-7-YL) ACETIC AMIDE DEADLINE: JAN 04, 2002
$75,000 USD

The best proposed method for synthesizing this compound submitted before January 4th, 2002 that could be reproduced in the laboratory would be awarded $75,000.
