Engineering Index

Engineering Index is published monthly as Engineering Index and is collected in a multi-volume annual set known as Engineering Index Annual. The index covers the world's technological literature in all engineering disciplines. In preparing the annual index from the monthly index the abstracts are completely renumbered to provide for more efficient searching.

Subject, Author, Corporate Author, and Monthly to Annual Abstract Number Translation Indices are provided spanning several years. For example, under the heading of Photolysis in the 1982-1984 Subject Index we find:

Photolysis

    PHOTODEGRADABLE POLYMERS: POLY(ARYLENE KETO AMINE)S.

82-006209

indicating that this article can be found in a 1982 volume of Engineering Index under the abstract number 006209. A key to journal title and conference abbrevaitions is also provided.

Montana Tech has paper copies of 283 volumes of Engineering Index extending back to 1884. Electronic searching of Engineering Index on-line, as Ei-CompendexR, is available at Montana Tech..

Assignment Notes:

Note that when you are asked to locate an article published in a given year, that year is the year that the article was published and may be different from the year in which the abstract appeared.

Note also that when you have a monthly abstract and are using the Engineering Index Annual, you need to first translate the monthly abstract number into the abstract number used in the annual index by consulting the Monthly to Annual Abstract Number Translation Index.
