ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Scott Sampson, PresidentMessage From the President

We would like to let you know what is happening with the Montana Tech Alumni Association (MTAA) since last year’s decision to move to a non-dues paying association.

MTAA continues to work with the College and Foundation in seeing that our institution continues its enrollment growth and campus expansion while maintaining the history and legacy that has been passed down through generations.  A committee consisting of the local governing board and the institution are in the process of reconstructing the MTAA bi-laws in conjunction with our mission to “The mission of the Montana Tech Alumni Association is to promote the interests of the College to the alumni, community, state, nation, and world.”

MTAA wishes to report that we are working with the Alumni Affairs office at getting more participation from our alumni, both on and off campus.  Montana Tech is energized by the student growth and building expansion.  We welcome all alumni to come back to the campus and witness some of the renovation of the buildings, and other great facilities the college has to offer.  If you haven't been on campus for a while, you will be surprised to see that the old Mill building has been beautifully renovated and now houses the bookstore and a Starbucks.  In addition, work is underway to expand the campus with the addition of the Natural Resources Building and an Alumni Center.  For more information on the projects, please contact the Montana Tech Foundation.

We have been active with the College in sponsoring social events that honor outstanding achievement in and out of the classroom. Such events include the Alumni Recognition Banquet (which honors selected alumni), fall sports tailgating receptions, and a “business” social after the annual Career Fair.  This coming February 15, 2008 we will be sponsoring a reception for alums at the basketball game against Rocky Mountain College in the newly renovated Kelvin Sampson Court located in the HPER.  All alumni are welcome to visit the hospitality room, before the game or during halftime, for a beverage and snacks, or to visit with fellow alumni, boosters and Tech staff.  Tech Athletic Director, Joe McClafferty, is always present to speak with regarding the bright future of Tech Athletics and the facility improvements being planned.  Mike Johnson, Vice Chancellor of Institutional and Academic Advancement is also available to discuss the planned growth of Montana Tech.

MTAA has been working with the Peggy McCoy, Director of the Office of Alumni Affairs.  Peggy does a lot of traveling and has met with alumni all over the country. Through these efforts, the first organized MTAA alumni chapter has been established in Utah, and several other chapters are being formed across the country.  Please contact us if you wish to start a chapter in your area, or to see if a chapter is already established in your area.  Check out the Montana Tech web set for lists of events and activities that may be happening in your area as well as on campus.  Please take a moment to see if there is an alumni event in your area.   You will be able to visit with College, Foundation, Alumni staff traveling in your area.  It is important that Montana Tech Alumni stay in touch with each other.  We request your assistance recruiting new students to come to Montana Tech to receive a quality education, and to ensure the growth of our campus.

Thank you for your continued interest in Montana Tech.  Please let us know what we can do to keep you in touch with your alma mater, and fellow alumni.

Keep in touch!
