How To Apply

Steps to Registration

Please complete each step before moving on to the next.

Class registration for international students opens in June and continues through the summer until the Friday before classes begin in August. International students are encouraged to register early to ensure a full class schedule for the semester. If you are not registered into at least 12 credits, you will be out-of-status with your F-1 visa/I-20 requirements and you risk not being able to attend Montana Tech that semester.

Please review the academic calendar for your entry year for specific deadlines.

1) Activate your OrediggerWeb account

OrediggerWeb is Montana Tech’s on-line student management system and is used to check your admission status, accept your financial aid, and view and pay your bill. OrediggerWeb is only available to admitted students. If you cannot login to OrediggerWeb, you have not yet been admitted.

2) Review your admission file

Ensure your admission file is complete by reviewing your “application checklist” in OrediggerWeb. If your file is not complete, or you have not been admitted to Montana Tech, you will not be able to register for classes. Any items missing from your application checklist can be e-mailed to the Enrollment Services office or sent to:

  • Please note: The I-20 item on your checklist will be completed by Montana Tech and not you.

Math & writing requirements: In order to register for classes, Montana Tech needs to have official math and writing scores on file to determine which classes you are eligible to take. This can be determined using test scores or prior college transcripts. If you received notification that a Compass Exam is required to satisfy this requirement, we do not have enough information about your academic preparedness to register you for classes.

The Compass Exam is a Math and Writing placement exam and is available at many universities throughout the United States and a few international centers. Visit to find a Compass Exam testing center near you. If you cannot complete the Compass Exam before arriving on campus, you will be required to take it after you arrive during Montana Tech’s International Orientation Program.

  • Please note: Students who do not score high enough on the Compass Exam may not be granted admission into their desired program of study. Montana Tech recommends completing the Compass Exam or submitting ACT or SAT scores prior to arriving on campus, so you know as soon as possible if you may begin in your chosen program of study.

If you intend to enroll in Montana Tech after completing the English Language Institute or any other English training program, you may register for classes after you successfully complete your English instruction.

3) Contact your advisor

International first-year students: Once your application is complete, you may contact the following academic representative by e-mail to register for your classes.

International transfer students: Once your admission file is complete, a Montana Tech Transcript Evaluator will review your transcripts and determine which credits will transfer to your chosen degree program. After they have completed the evaluation, the Evaluator will notify you in an email about the number of credits accepted and provide you with instructions on how to register for your classes.
