Admissions Requirements & Standards—First Time Freshmen
Requirements
First time freshman are required to turn in the following items for their admissions file:
- Application
- $30 Application Fee
- Final High School Transcript or GED scores
- Proof of two doses of Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) immunizations
- Official ACT or SAT scores
Standards
First time freshman are required to meet the following standards for admission to Montana Tech:
Rank in the top half of graduating class, OR
Graduate with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, OR
Achieve a minimum composite score on the ACT of 22, or a minimum total score on the SAT of 1530
AND
Achieve a minimum math score of 18 on the ACT or 440 on the SAT
AND
Achieve a minimum combined English/writing score of 17 on the ACTor writing subscore of 6 OR 420 on the writing section of the SAT or a 6 on the essay subscore OR a 3 on the Montana University System Writing Assessment (Montana students only) OR a 3 on the AP English language or literature examinations OR a 50 or better on a CLEP examination for Freshman Composition.
AND
Complete the College Preparatory Requirements of their State. In Montana, those requirements are:
- Four years of English
- Three years of Mathematics (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II)
- Three years of Social Studies
- Two years of Laboratory Science (One year must be Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
- Two years combined of Foreign Language, Visual and Performing Arts, Computer Sciences, or Vocation Education.
