Montana Tech Library and Auditorium
In 1975, the Montana State Legislature voted in favor of a new budget for the construction of a new library. Construction began early in 1977 and was completed in 1978. The Library opened its doors on April 2, 1978, the first day of National Library Week, and formal dedication activities were held on May 27, 1978.
The Montana Tech Library provides students, faculty, and visitors with access to electronic databases that include over 31,000 full-text titles, as well as a traditional print collection with over 120,000 volumes. The library is also a U.S. Patent and Trademark Depository and U.S. Document Depository. Students may relax and study in library study areas that provide wireless internet access or use the computer lab.
Attached to the east wall of the Library is the Auditorium. Construction of the auditorium began in 1978. Funding for the auditorium came from a grant from the Federal Economic Development Administration and private donations from alumni and the community. The Auditorium seats 262 people and was first used on June 10, 1979 to host the 53rd annual convention of the Montana State Music Teachers Association. Today the Auditorium is used for everything from psychology classes to the annual “Battle of the Bands” competition.
