A brief history of the evolution of the Strategic Plan:

Following a year of brainstorming and exploration of the educational environment in which Montana Tech exists, a diverse body of stakeholders was invited to comment on what should be in the Strategic Plan and what strategic directions Montana Tech should pursue. This exercise yielded 719 suggestions for the Strategic Plan, distributed across 6 themes and 27 sub-themes. The 37 member Strategic Planning Committee then divided into six sub-committees (one for each theme) and pared this list to 145 prioritized strategies within each theme and sub-theme distributed across 2 year, 5 year, and 10 year time-frames. Subsequently sub-groups of the Strategic Planning Committee were surveyed to determine whether a given strategy should be retained or not. Using the survey results and the original sub-committee prioritization, a score was developed for each strategy and low scoring strategies were eliminated, further reducing the number of strategies to 131. The remaining strategies were then reviewed and in some cases combined, reworded and reordered by Chancellor Blackketter and I, resulting in the Strategic Plan accessible from the link below.
