Chancellor's Welcome
As Chancellor, it is my pleasure to welcome you on behalf of the alumni, students, faculty and staff of Montana Tech of the University of Montana. Welcome! As we celebrate our 108th year of service to the people of Montana, Montana Tech envisions itself as a leader for undergraduate and graduate education and research in the Pacific Northwest in engineering, science, energy, health, information sciences and technology. We take pride in offering programs that range from certificates and associate degrees to master’s degrees. At each stage along this path we provide stop-in and stop-out points which permit you to learn, then earn, and then come back to learn again. In preparing graduates for life in our global economy, Tech emphasizes essential characteristics such as thinking critically, learning throughout life, and communicating through oral, written and electronic means. A certificate or degree from Montana Tech stands for quality. Established as one of the four original campuses of the Montana University System in 1893, today Montana Tech manages an enrollment of 2,200 students focused on education and research in minerals, energy engineering, natural science, the environment, technology, liberal studies, nursing, technical communication, and business-economic development. Montana Tech is student friendly and takes pride in quality instruction provided by highly qualified faculty. The College of Technology, an integral part of Tech, offers certificates of applied science for computer assistants and network technicians, associate of applied science degrees in civil engineering technology and network technology, and many other technical, business, and health options. Montana Tech graduates are very successful in obtaining challenging positions at excellent salaries. Career placement rates for our graduates have averaged 98% for the past five years. We proudly boast that our alumni are employed throughout the world. Many graduates of Tech continue their education, pursuing graduate degrees. The Princeton Review selected Montana Tech as one of 165 schools it recommends in “America’s Best Value Colleges.” Our campus is located in one of the truly beautiful parts of our country. Our location midway between Yellowstone and Glacier Parks provides outstanding opportunities for recreation including skiing and other winter sports, camping, hiking and world-class fishing. Welcome to the family we call Tech.
